Hiking in Borsa

Borsa is the northern gateway to the Rodna Mountains, and boasts a ridge walk over 50km long from west to east. With Pietrosul and Ineu the two highest peaks at 2303m and 2279 respectively. While the ridge itself poses no difficulties, the challenge is in the length of it. A complete hike normally takes 3 to 5 days to complete depending on weather and the fitness of the walker.

The entire Rodna Mountain range is part of the Rodna National Park and Biosphere Reserve. This is a 567kmsq reservation in the Eastern Carpathians with wild life that includes brown bear, lynx, grey wolves, black capercaillies and eagles.

Cabana Mira is situated on the outskirts of Borsa leading to the ski resort. The road it is on leads to one of the many local hiking trails. So within minutes one can start climbing the beautiful valley whose river flows past the entrance of the house. The route brings you eventually up onto the ridge where you can find many more routes to take from there

Skiing in Borsa

Borsa holiday and ski resort in Maramures County situated in northern part of Romania. It is situated at 850m altitude where the Viveu river meets the Fantanei valley River near the Prislop pass(1414). Here skiers can find the largest natural ski jump in Europe, similar in dimensions to those used in international competitions. The total ski runs length, including cross country, is 12km.

Due to open for 2011 winter season is a new state of the art ski run to complement the existing facilities. Now with night skiing and planned international competitions, Borsa will be ranked as the number one resort in Romania.
